1Downtown and the Marina
Nightlife and boat trips
The hub for restaurants, bars and boat trips. A U-shaped boardwalk links the shopping streets to the charter docks, the Puerto Paraíso mall sits by Medano Beach, and inland streets have taco stands. Easy on foot, no car needed.

Beach stays and water sports
About two miles of sand just east of the marina, lined with high-rise hotels, beach clubs and water-sports rentals. It is the town's main swimmable beach and the centre of the spring-break scene, so it can get crowded.

Privacy and luxury
An exclusive clifftop area on the hillside above town, set apart from the busy marina streets. Villas and luxury stays here offer privacy, but you need transport to get anywhere.

About 20 km of resorts and golf courses between Cabo San Lucas and San José del Cabo, with the protected swimming bays of Chileno, Santa María and Palmilla. You need a car, taxi or the Ruta del Desierto bus.

Couples, art and food
A colonial town centred on Plaza Mijares and its church, with a Gallery District on cobblestone lanes. Quieter and more cultural than Cabo San Lucas, and closest to the airport.

Divers and snorkellers
Undeveloped coast north-east of Los Cabos and home to Cabo Pulmo National Marine Park, one of the oldest coral reef ecosystems in North America. The final road stretch is unpaved, so bring an SUV or join a tour.
